Now we have yet another social media that we need to take into account. Google presented their service Buzz, a service that according to Google aims to be an alternative to Facebook and Twitter. It is always difficult to be number two, there can be only one! So I am not sure that Google will be able to compete with FB, but we will see!!!
By adding a new communicative tool on the market, Google also contribute with new potential records. Records born in a Buzz?!? That seems to be quite fancy records, but Buzz exist in the cloud, and how do I preserve the context, content and structure of a Buzz? We will most likely find several organizations that also will use Buzz without planning for how to manage the records born in Buzz.
I do not say that there are more problem with records born in Buzz than records born in FB or Twitter. I just notice that there are several different social software that are popular, and several records are born in those systems.
We might end up in a problem that are even larger than the problem we just had with long term preservation of a word document:)!
Anyway, I still think social software enrich my life, and I hope that me and my research fellows solve the preservation problem.
